ATOP prediction of total sea level (tide + storm) in meters on Spe/27/20:00(GMT+8) (Spe/27/20:00 Taipei time) during the passage of Typhoon Megi. Dark grey near the coast indicate potential flood areas and red grids west of Taiwan indicate high flood-risk regions. Right panel shows the entire modeled domain and left panel shows zoomed-in region indicated by the dashed box in the right panel. Model has 1km x 1km resolution using ETOPO2 terrain data, includes 22 tidal constituents [see Oey et al 2014, J. Phys. Oceanogr.], and uses the wet-and-dry scheme of Oey [2005; 2006; Ocean Modelling]. This forecast was carried out by Mr. Simon Chou and Mr. Yuchun Lin of the ATOP Group at the National Central University ([1km x 1km animation]
